Daniel Wallace Papers, 1977-2007

Daniel Wallace, author and illustrator, was born in 1959 in Birmingham, Ala. He attended first Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., and then the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His first novel, (1998), was made into a film of the same name directed by Tim Burton in 2003. Big Fish The collection consists of correspondence and related materials; drafts, production and promotion materials, and reviews relating to his published novels; and drafts and other items relating to published and unpublished writings. Correspondence consists chiefly of personal letters relating to Daniel Wallace's life and work. The bulk of the letters are dated 1977-1988 and are from family, friends, and former girlfriends. Correspondents include Wallace's mother Joan Wallace; his father E. D. Wallace; his sisters Rangeley, Barrie, and Holland; and his brother-in-law author, cartographer, and kayaking enthusiast William Nealy with whom Wallace collaborated. Also included are materials from 1982-1984 when Wallace lived and worked for a trading company in Nagoya, Japan; instructional materials from Japanese language classes he taught when he returned to Chapel Hill, N.C.; newspaper clippings and articles; and photographs of identified and unidentified people and places. Among the materials relating to published books are three audiocassettes of radio interviews with Wallace about and items relating to the film version, including a betacam press kit. Big Fish

Daniel Wallace, author and illustrator, was born in 1959 in Birmingham, Ala., to E. D. Wallace and Joan Wallace, who had three other children: Rangeley, Barrie, and Holland (known as Holly ). He attended college first at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., and then at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 1982, Wallace took a job at a trading company in Nagoya, Japan.
